For the older kids.

What a difference five years makes. Back when I was young, stupid and apparently had ADD , I watched this movie and really disliked it. Now that I am older and less stupid I could finally appreciate the spectacle. I cannot even begin to imagine how they pulled off visuals of such flawlessness and grace in the 60s when today much simpler attempts at times look fake. Everything came together with the precision of a finely crafted puzzle, the score and the beautiful scenery are the main focus here, so much so that I would say they are the main characters. It's a movie that relies on total immersion from these two points as opposed to dialog and human interaction. A ballsy move that I imagine alienated a lot of viewers who found it difficult to connect, but rewarded those who could.

Epic, epic, epic... The first 30 minutes of this film ring true as so many things are stated about mankind. Kubrick paints many great pictures in this movie that should all be understood with only a few viewings if not less. This is definitely a movie that uses its uniqueness to break boundaries, much to the likes of Citizen Kane, in multi-cinematic realms such as science-fiction, theatre, and social/philosophical commentary to name a few.

What Crum Dug! - The Dawn of Man sequence is legendary, also the fact that I know of no other movie that can still be as intense that does not feature dialogue until 38 minutes into the film. Great movie! Worth watching! Try to not get bored and really invest yourself into the movie and you shouldn't be disappointed.

A space odyssey?

Never will a film be interpreted in so many different ways than Kubricks 2001. To first time viewers, 2001: A space odyssey may look like an everyday sci-fi movie, but i assure you Kubricks 2001 is much more than this. The film's plot revolves around three crew members sent on a mission to investigate a mysterious monolith that has appeared on the surface of jupiter and their computer HAL. The film however for the first hour does not progress, the focus at this point is on beauty. Which i dont entirely agree with. We are treated to shot after shot of space, with the excellent soundtrack in the background. However despite the beauty on display i feel that i would much prefer terrible special effects if there were less of the sequences. But when the plot starts to materialise towards the …
