This is actually the earliest movie I can recall ever watching in a theater. And although I have gone on to develop (naturally) a preference for other, earlier Mel Brooks works, I'll always have a soft spot for this movie which surprisingly still evokes some good genuine laughs many years later.

Maybe you never will see an un-funny Brooks flick. This is certainly not the case, where he steps up, and takes the mythical Star Wars, and turns it into a parody (like if sometimes SW is not a parody enough). So silly that you have to laugh.

This has got to be one of the funniest movies ever. I have never seen the Start Wars movies and I was still able to understand this movie and enjoy the comedy that surrounded it.

John Candy, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, George Wyner, and Mel Brooks himself are all very talented and create characters that the audience can really identify with. They offer a broad range of personalities that help the film develop its story. Dark Helmet was genius! The over sized helmet, and his way of taking care of people was funny. Vespa is your ordinary snobby, rich kid; and Barf you typical sidekick, and Lone Starr, your "Hero for Hire". References from the original Star Wars trilogy, and other movies such as Aliens, Wizard of Oz, and Planet of the Apes. It was a great movie all around, just about everyone has a favorite line / scene from this movie. A must have for every collection.

A hilarious look at the world that Star Wars created. A perfect parody, good acting, funny, and fast paced. When I saw it as a kid, I didn't understand it. It is even funnier now that I enjoy the Star Wars films so much. Brook's best film.

Being a self-proclaimed Star Wars fan, Spaceballs was my favorite Brooks film. That is no longer the case, but Spaceballs is still a fun parody that skewers some of the greatest sci-fi films of all time.
