Plot: Devil's Island is a remote, dangerous penal colony. The rather meek Henri "Papillon" Charrière, a Parisian safecracker is sent to the island after being framed for murder. He will do anything to escape and thus strikes up a friendship with the quirky counterfeiter Louis Dega - who has the money and the means - but a plan of this magnitude can't be down overnight and over several years, ups and downs, they form an unbreakable bond. -- Chris Kavan
