Oblivion |

'Oblivion's story contains some tropes I've seen in other sci-fi movies, which made the twists predictable. However, with the way the plot unfolds, I was engaged and wanted to see it through. The special effects are quite amazing and the action is tense. Good effort, but just a bit disappointing. |

Could have been so much more!

Hm. I am still trying to figure out what do I think of this movie. Special effects were great. Actors were great too, but somehow not enough used, especially Morgan Freeman and Coster-Waldau - any actor could have been on their places, the difference wouldn't have been noticed. The story though -- despite some quite melodramatic moments and repeats that could have been skipped -- was interesting till the last third of the movie, when... I do not wish to spoil the movie to you, so let me say onl... |

To the Wonder |

Terrance Malick's To the Wonder is big and lovely, but unremarkable. His use of establishing mood and his gorgeous cinematography are all wonderfully put on display here, but without a compelling narrative, interesting characters, and enriching themes, the movie is unfortunately a failing. Javier Bardem is in this movie for some reason, playing a priest who we get to know very little about, and the wonderful talents of Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams is utterly wasted. Unlike many of Malick's pr... |

Formulaic, but Engaging
|
|
Like most sports movies, 42 is easy to like, but hard to love. The underdog story is worth cheering on, and the protagonist is likeable enough to root for. A little humor, some soft moments, and the written epilogue adds up to a whole lot of formula, but still makes for a surprisingly engaging baseball tale.
Jackie Robinson is making history as the first African-American to break the baseball "color line." Only white men had previously been accepted as professional baseball players, but B... |

'42' tells the inspiring true story of one of Major League Baseball's greatest players. It may come off as a safe, slightly 'hollywood-ized' biopic, but it entertains with it's themes and believable performances. There's less reliance on the usual cliches (though it still contains some) and more attention is paid to the effects that Robinson's experience in baseball had on segregation. |

42 (2013) This film tells the courageous story of Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) who was signed by Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) to the Brooklyn Dodgers to become the first African-American player to break the baseball “color line.” Unfortunately, this film doesn’t live up to the legend of Robinson as it’s filled with clichéd moments, some of which made me cringe. Chadwick Boseman just doesn’t have the charisma that Robinson had, making it hard to see why people were so enamored not just ... |

It was both entertaining and, probably, historically accurate. |
