This is the End |

'Funniest movie I've Seen in a Long Time
|

I’ve seen several abysmal comedies this year. It’s such a breath of fresh air to watch a comedy that’s actually funny that I’m probably making this is The End out to be a lot better then it actually is.
In this movie a group of actors play themselves (or rather: parodies of themselves) and their wacky, hellish, hi-jinks during the apocalypse. These actors all do great jobs parodying themselves, and have a lot of fun in the world those writers/directors Rogen and Goldberg have created.

Violet & Daisy

Violet & Daisy (2013) R Violet (Alexis Bledel) and Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) are not just your ordinary teenager girls. They do love clothes and the music of their favorite pop star, Barbie Sunday. But, the girls are a little different from your average teenager, as they are assassins for hire. When they discover that Barbie Sunday has designed a costly dress, they take a hit job – a job that may change their lives forever. This is one of those strange “Indie” films that just doesn’t quite hit... |

The Kings of Summer

The Kings of Summer (2013) R Three teenage boys (Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias) decide to get away from their rather strange and controlling parents by running away to build a house in the middle of the woods. This is a great film for the summer. It’s funny, moving and full of fine performances. While viewers will see this film for the supporting cast, which is full of great comedians like Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, it’s the three lead boys (Nick Robinson, Gabriel Bass... |

The Purge
|
|
The Purge (2013) R In the near future, all crime has been eliminated due to The Purge. It’s one night, where, in a twelve-hour period, anybody can commit any crime and get away with it. The Sandin family is set for the night, as their house is literally a fortress. But a stranger begs his way into their home and, suddenly, they are the target of some devious hit-men out to get the stranger. This is a violent film that uses the “shakey cam” (where the camera shakes for effect) for much of it... |

The Internship
|
|
The Internship (2013) PG-13 Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) are salesmen who see the business they work for destroyed by the digital world. They decide, when you can’t beat them, join them, as they talk their way into an internship at the ultimate digital workplace, Google. Now, they must compete with fellow interns who are younger and much more tech savvy to land a job in the fast paced, high tech world. The film is one long, and I do mean long, infomercial for Google. The Goog... |

Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to capture one former member of their organization who holds weapon of mass destruction. The Enterprise and all its crew has to face another action which measures their friendship and ties to each other.

Awesome. Terrific. Brilliant. This film is indeed one of the best movies produced for the past decades. I thought J.J. Abrams has lost his great directing skills when I saw Super 8 (The film wasn't bad but I was expecting more.) The whole picture was a great e... |

Frances Ha

Frances Ha (2013) R To say that Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a free spirit would be an understatement. She lives in New York but doesn’t have an apartment, she’s a dancer but doesn’t get paid for it, and her best friend hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. Now, Frances decides that its time for a change. Hope New York City is ready for what Frances has in mind. Greta Gerwig is cute and appealing as Frances, going through life not knowing exactly where she's headed and how she will get there. Mickey ... |

Now You See Me

Now You See Me (2013) PG-13 A team of illusionists, led by J. Daniel (Jesse Eisenberg) and Merritt (Woody Harrelson), are robbing banks while performing magic in front of audiences. Its up to an FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) and an Interpol detective (Melanie Laurent) to not only stop the team, but to find out what’s the team’s magic secret of robbery success? This is another film where a great cast is let down by a lesser script. The film starts off with a bang, as we see how the four magic... |

After Earth

After Earth (2013) PG-13 Due to some cataclysmic events, Earth was abandoned over 1000 years ago. Cypher Raige (Will Smith) leads a crew on a training mission, when he and his son, Kitai (Jaden Smith), are the sole survivors of a crash landing. The planet they land on is Earth, and now father and son must team up to survive a world populated by dangerous, wild animals. Let me first say that the CGI (the computerized special effects) in this film are horrible. I felt like I was back in the... |

A fast-paced and well executed caper/chase flick. The plot is constantly serving up twists, which causes a distraction from the movie's flaws. It feels like more thought was put into the tricks than everything else in the script. That's fine, though, because it kept me looking forward to the next reveal (and there's a ton of them). The actors are all good and make the writing seem better than it is. Despite being mildly entertaining, there's still a feeling of hollowness here. 'Now You Se... |
