All That Glitters Is Not Gold
|

The mad dash to find a replacement for the Twilight franchise has lead to the translation of "Beautiful Creatures" from page to screen. The themes, substance, and depth of the book were lost in that translation, much to the disappointment of most fans of this book series. I agree with Paula in that the writers and director chose scenes from the book that would be the most beautiful and visually interesting to focus on, while leaving any moments of substance on the cutting room floor. Fan of ... |

I don't like everything this movie said about slavery. And, I don't like everything it said about religion. But then again, I rarely like either of those things in movies. What I did like was the plot and the characters. Oh, and it should be noted that I have not read the book. |

A Good Day to Die Hard |

Die Hard?
|

I decided to go with 3 stars even though I was disappointed. Why? Because the action was great and if it wasn't Die Hard I wouldn't be disappointed. Die Hard is special among action movies because the bad guys matter. They have presence. They are not interchangeable. Not so in this movie. So, this movie fell down on its Die Hardness, but not on its essential actioness. There were some sequences that were new and very cool looking, but who cares really. Die Hard was unique, to me anyway, becaus... |

Stand Up Guys review

Individuals who have stellar careers who have been connected with cool films such as The Deer Hunter, Dead Zone, Seven Psychopaths, The Godfather, Scent of a Woman, Argo, and Grosse Point Blank. A wise-guys Bucket List stumbles because of lackluster screenplay, lousy direction, dull soundtrack and an underutilized powerful cast. Val (Al Pacino) gets released after several years and his friend Doc (Christopher Walken) meets-up with him. Problem is, there is a contract to take-out Val. Their... |

Die Hard with a Whimper

Die Hard is arguably one of the greatest action films to grace the silver screen. It also helped propel Bruce Willis into the action hero stratosphere (something he hasn't been shy to capitalize on). While the films in the series have had their ups and downs, there is no doubt in my mind that A Good Day to Die Hard is the weakest entry into this series thus far.
Although there is plenty of action and some of that off-beat humor that made previous Die Hard films so fun, the main problem with ... |

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) John McClane (Bruce Willis) travels to Russia to try get his son (Jai Courtney) back on track. What John doesn’t know is his son isn’t a kid bumming his way through Europe - he’s a CIA operative trying to stop the sale of nuclear weapons. Now John must team up with his son to keep the world safe. Yippee Ki yay bad! This is one of those films where the plot is so badly thought out that, at the end if the film, you have no idea how you got there. There are lots of da... |

Everyone in this movie plays their part perfectly. The only problem with the movie is that it's pretty much your typical road-trip comedy. They start out hating each other, and by the end of the movie they're BFF's. |

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters |
Rating of: 1/4

Hansel & Gretel is a weird film and none of it is really very good. The film tries to be a snarky steampop adaptation of a fairytale world, a la (the equally bad) League of Extraordinary Gentleman, but, unlike that film, it's missing the necessary taste for black humor. The plot itself is ridiculous fantasy (something about a Blood Moon ritual that is complete tired mumbo-jumbo,) but the film doesn't take the opportunity to poke fun at itself and, rather, plays the material straight, which ac... |
