I'm becoming a Netflix Originals fanboy.

“Blackwater National Park reported that a lighthouse was surrounded by something they termed “a shimmer.”
One of the wardens went in to investigate.
Never returned.”

Let me get right to the point. “Annihilation” isn’t exactly an easy SF. This horrifying SciFi can join the group of “the more intellectual looking SF films” where “Arrival” can be found as well. The more subtle form of SF, where you wonder all the time what is actually going on (just like the protagonists in this movie). And i...

Black Panther - Review

"Did he freeze?"

So this is kinda late since the hype for Marvel's latest entry is slowly dying down, until 'Infinity War' hits and everything else will be history. Black Panther is a good movie, but sadly not a great one. There's a lot of great things about it and boy was it a joy to watch. The problems on the other hand aren't something to overlook.

Ryan Coogler is an excellent director with his previous work on 'Fruitvale Station' and Creed''. While I think he stumbled a bit ...

Refractions of Life in the Smart Sci Fi Genre

In recent years we’ve seen the rise in a tendency that has come to be known as “smart science fiction”. Movies like “Arrival”, “Interstellar”, “Looper”, “Ex Machina”, even “Mad Max: Fury Road” are clearly genre pieces, but they seem to rely heavier on the ideas they are portraying rather than the high-concept eye-candy that is characteristical to the genre. Whether these films are truly smart or not is up for debate, but the tendency is clear. Alex Garland, director of one of the aforementioned...

Wakanda Forever Indeed

Disney and Marvel have done a lot of things right in their epic MCU franchise. From delivering more obscure heroes and rocketing them to instant fame (Guardians of the Galaxy), creating a trippy sci-fi fantasy (Dr. Strange) even delivering a well-deserved comedy (Thor: Ragnarok) - this series has come a long way since Iron Man. That being said, Black Panther is, thus far, the most important film in this ever-expanding cannon. There aren't a lot of black superheroes out there - and Black Panther...

Black Panther is a masterpiece.

Such a fantastic film that hits the right mark on so many things, I've seen the film twice and i'm still digesting what I witnessed in the theater. The direction, story, cinematography, acting, action and pace we're damn near flawless. It also has stunning visuals, just a visual treat. It's emotional, action packed, heartfelt and quite touching at times. Cooglar did an amazing job at giving this film a heartbeat and molding and shaping it into his own vision. What you get out of that is a maste...

One Trippy Science Fiction Film

I had a rough idea of what to expect going into this, but it turned out to be more (mentally) challenging and enjoyable than I could have imagined. Without a doubt, Natalie Portman carries this film. Coming from Alex Garland ('Ex Machina', 2014), I knew this wasn't going to be some special effects/CGI shoot 'em up laden offering. If anything, I think it was very restrained in all of the possibilities that could have filled up more than the nearly 2 hour running time of this movie.

'Annihilat...

All hail Black Panther, king of Wakanda!

Black Panther leaps off the screen in a dazzling adventure with a decidedly unique Afro-futuristic vibe. Director Ryan Coogler may have started out with independent dramas but his style feels at home within the MCU.
Set not long after CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, the film follows T'Challa, the newly christened king of Wakanda as he combats evil forces from outside and from within his own nation.
The nearly all-black supporting cast is mostly strong. Michael B. Jordan and Andy Serkis are both...

Great images. Weak story.

“You both need to clear off my property,
or as god is my witnessI will not be responsible for what happens!
Colt, If she goes in there Maria and Jonah are as good as dead.”

An onrushing hot rod that suddenly breaks down near an awful looking, abandoned farm with lots of barbed wire and warning signs. There are squeaky doors and you can hear a howling wind while the person with car trouble is looking for someone who can help him. And then he experiences that awful moment. Something he did n...

I realize that a lot of this documentary was trying too hard at times to dramatize what was happening in order to keep an audience entertained. However, the questions brought up about why Americans are so trigger happy compared to other countries really stick with people because those are the questions that are still unanswered.
