First Reformed - Review

"There goes my head"

It's strange, two years ago Paul Schrader made the most convoluted movie of his career with 'Dog Eat Dog', then make something so masterful like this. Anywhere...

'First Reformed' is easily one of my favorite movies of 2018. Absolutely captivating from start till finish. A strong character study on faith and pain. An Excellent performances from Ethan Hawke, who's facial expressions and his tried voice says so much about the character. You're just...

Packed with more XMEN characters, bigger action scenes, and zanier humor, DEADPOOL 2 proves superior to its riotous predecessor. Ryan Reynolds continues riffing the entire superhero genre while Josh Brolin grunts and growls as the time traveling cyborg Cable. His arrival to kill a mutant child thrusts Deadpool into action to prevent it from happening.
The Easter Eggs and in-jokes speed by like rapid fire from a machine gun. The scale of the action scenes (especially a thrilling convoy chase) ...

A Thin Line Between Man and Beast

A series of murders has rocked a small, island community as a young woman struggles to find a place where she feels accepted, being drawn to another kindred soul - but both share much more than not fitting in - a darkness that lurks under the surface, waiting to be unleashed.

Michael Pearce directs his first full-length feature, and uses the basis of an actual crime (The Beast of Jersey) as well as shooting on location on the Isle of Jersey (where he lived at one time) to craft this small-to...

Never thought it would be so freaking awesome.

You’re the one doing it all.
You’re not a robot.

In my film review of the movie “The Hollow Child“, I started again with a plea about trailers and I summed up the reasons why I avoid them. I saw the trailer from “Upgrade” by chance at the beginning of this year. Believe me, I was ecstatic and enthusiastic. “I HAVE to see this movie“, I thought. There are trailers that look inviting and afterward, the film looks very disappointing. But “Upgrade” certainly doesn’t belong in this category. On ...

This was fun to watch.

For even in death, you have become Children of Thanos.

Me and superheroes. We have a kind of love-hate relationship. One moment I’m really enjoying the character or the story. At that time jealousy bubbles up and I wished I had those specific powers in my daily life. And sometimes I have absolutely no feelings about the superhero or I find the story not so fascinating. I surely can enjoy a Hulk movie because of the devastating power this superhero possesses. From “Spiderman“, I like ...

A Caper of Moronic Proportions, Real Consequences

Part documentary, mostly re-enactment, American Animals gives us the true story of the wild Warren Lipka (Evan Peters) and more down-to-Earth pal Spencer Reinhard (Barry Keoghan) who realize the local Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky is home to some extremely valuable rare books, including John James Audubon's Birds of America. Whether on a whim or while high or just because they are bored with their lots in life, the two plan a heist based on nothing more than the collective pop ...

Fallen Kingdom Devolves into Mediocrity

Now that the nostalgia factor has worn off, Fallen Kingdom returns in a more rote fashion. Much like The Lost World after Jurassic Park, Fallen Kingdom just can't capture the same magic that Jurassic World brought us, but lays the groundwork for something that could be salvaged.

Director J.A. Boyona takes over from Colin Trevorrow (who instead directed the poorly-received Book of Henry - though he will be back for Jurassic World 3) with stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and BD Wong retu...

Jurassic World 2 - Review

“These creatures were here before us. And if we're not careful... they're going to be here after. Life cannot be contained. Life breaks free. Life... finds a way. Welcome... to Jurassic World.”

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place three years after the events of the first movie. The left remaining dinosaurs are left on the island as a volcano erupts. As the advertisements put it, “The park is gone”. All of this only raises one question: Why would you put a family theme park next to an ...
