Death and Politics

The Kennedy curse seems poised to strike again when the last surviving son of Joseph Kennedy, Ted, is involved in a car accident that claims the life of young campaign strategist, Mary Jo Kopechne. While Ted quickly involves family friend Joseph Gargan and Paul Markham, he also scrambles between owning up to the accident while salvaging his political career.

Chappaquiddick is somewhat dry but it also doesn't sugarcoat the issue. Jason Clarke plays Ted Kennedy on a thin line between unsympath...

No Sympathy for This Vengeance

Joaquin Phoenix never takes the easy road, whether it is portraying a country music legend, a man falling in love with his AI or a mockumentary about... himself? Whatever the case, Phoenix chooses the role less traveled - and is always up for a challenge - and You Were Never Really Here, if not the pinnacle of his career, is certainly up there with the better characters he has decided to portray.

Many have pointed out that the film shares a lot in common with Taxi Driver, and that is true. P...

Remember when people thought Battleship was the lowest point for ideas? Then everyone joked about what other game material should be adapted into a movie.

Good times.

DeKnight's followup to the 2013 cult favorite 'Pacific Rim' is a frantically paced but shallow sequel. The cast is okay but the stakes seem less important than in the original film. The visual effects are competent but lack the polish and grandeur of Guillermo Del Toro's signature style.

I Can't Wait for the Sequel

It's not easy to create a unique thriller these days, but this is one. It's the same basic formula for thrillers/horror movies, but the major details are ones I've not seen before. Very interesting, as I imagined myself trying to cope under those conditions. Krasinski didn't have the cred for a dramatic role, but he delivered and certainly has cred, now. Blunt delivered, as well, as to be expected. The kids delivered. The writers delivered, the cinematographers delivered, the tech guys delivere...

Anderson's new foray into stop-motion territory

In 2009 Wes Anderson directed the stop-motion film “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, which was met with great commercial success and critical acclaim, earning an Academy Award nomination for best Animated Feature, with some even claiming it deserved to win. Nine years later he’s back at it with an adventure that involves animals and humans, a great deal of his characteristic deadpan humour, and thousands of perfectly symmetrical shots. Visually stunning, charming and with a really big heart, “Isle of Dogs” ...

Silence is survival...

It’s not often a truly unique movie experience comes along. ‘A Quite Place’ is definitely one of those. Making his first big-screen debut, John Krasinski also served as co-script writer, and is the lead character in this film. Starring alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, he delivers an earnest and engrossing story. At 90 minutes, this film immediately engages the audience in the narrative with only small bits of information on the actual backstory, and the story line remains highly focus...

I realize that a lot of this documentary was trying too hard at times to dramatize what was happening in order to keep an audience entertained. However, the questions brought up about why Americans are so trigger happy compared to other countries really stick with people because those are the questions that are still unanswered.

Remember when Michael Moore made good movies?

MIchael Moore's best documentary film which in light of recent events such as Sandy Hook, Trayvon Martin, Aurora, and so many other horrible shooting incidents have only made it so much more important since its initial release.
What is most interesting about "Bowling For Columbine" is that despite its obvious political agenda (GUN CONTROL!) which Moore himself is open about from the beginning, the movie does not find any easy solution(s) to the situation. He examines the role played...
