From Here to Eternity review

The film revolves around Captain Dana "Dynamite" Holmes (Philip Ober), Private Angelo Maggio (Frank Sinatra) and Karen (Deborah Kerr). A simplistic plot with powerful performances. Main concern of this reviewer would be the overloaded cast which lacks sufficient character development/background and pacing. Battle sequences were authentic but its conclusion lacks some impact after the whole build-up of the affair. Screenplay had some nice lines such as: "Nobody ever lies about being lonely." "Maybe back in the days of the pioneers a man could go his own way, but today you got to play ball." and "I can understand how you feel, but those things happen." Overall, From Here to Eternity felt like an improved version of Pearl Harbor, with less cheesy scenes.
