The Conjuring review

One of the most well crafted true to life based stories for a horror picture. Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron together with Nancy, Cindy, and Christine move into an old house. Paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren's assistance were needed by the Perron's after a series of spooky incidents inside the house.

The film had elements of The Shining (the setting of the house), The Birds (even the sounds were earily similar), Paranormal Activity, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Exorcist and The Sixth Sense (Lorraine’s gift). Another observation was the witch plot and it’s insertion to the story. Nothing major but still noticeable. The cop was a good addition to bring in the humor. This critic was surprised at the provocative lines for its genre with quotes: "God brought us together for a reason." “Don’t give in.” - Lorraine ad "Wouldn't you do anything to protect her?" “My family means the world for me.” - Carolyn, "They don't have a lot of time." "I can't lose you." - Roger and "Let's finish this together." - Lorraine. I’d take God for gun any day.” The soundtrack added to the mood and camera direction was magnificent. Overall, The Conjuring may someday be a cult classic and a favorite for horror aficionados. For this reviewer, Insidious was better in most aspects and it's originality.
