Cabaret review

The 1930 set film revolves around dancer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli), writer/teacher Brian Roberts (Michael York) and the affluent Maximilian von Heune (Helmut Griem). The three leads share sexual experiences and heartaches only to boil down to an unborn fetus being aborted. Pacing was dreadful, conclusion just unsatisfying, the songs uninspiring, characters too weird and plot was not compelling. The picture seems to manipulate the song and dance numbers and tries to make a star out of Liza Minnelli. Even the subplots were a bore. This is a prime example of a not so entertaining drama musical since the direction was allover the place. Overall, Cabaret only works if it was purely a musical, as a film it just doesn't work on all aspects, despite casting a populr musicl artist.
