Escape from Alcatraz review

A well made prison flick, this reviewer still prefers Down by Law and Shawshank Redemption the best of its genre. It lacks appropriate character development (what was Frank in for? what was he before? etc.) and an engaging plot except for the actual escape. The film revolves around Frank Morris (Clint Eastwood), Charlie Butts (Larry Hankin), English (Paul Benjamin), Litmus and Doc. The performances were sincere, realism was high, escape well thought of but lacks the entertainment value for a crime drama. Clint Eastwood makes this worthwhile and the methods of the escape. One of the best lines: "The higher you sit, the more status you got. So we kind of play King of the Mountain. Except here we don't play for fun, man." from English. Escape from Alcatraz represents prison life, abuse of power and hope.
