"But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. we can still do things. " A sensitive and at times funny film about Charlie (Logan Lerman), Sam (Emma Watson) and Patrick (Ezra Miller). The three friends encounter certain challenges along the way. One of the most touching growing-up films coupled with a very cool soundtrack. Performances were spotless. It felt like an 80's flick rebooted to fit the younger generation of the 20th century. Spectacular screenplay with lines: "I know these will all be stories someday. And our pictures will become old photographs." "Right now we are alive and in this moment I swear we are infinite." and a personal favorite " I know we'll all become somebody-we'll all become old photographs and we'll all become somebody's mom and dad. Right now these moments are not stories, this is happening." - Charlie. Some few minor qualms this rater had were the "‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show" bits, the lack of history/details with Charlie's condition and incident with his aunt. Kids wearing underwear exhibiting sexual innuendos was just too much, and considering how awful the film was. An unnecessary twist doesn't hurt the quality and beauty of the film. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is nostalgic, authentic, and one of the best films of the year about growing-up, friendship, experimentation, acceptance, choices and good music.
