Journey to the Far Side of the Sun review

An impressive cult sci-fi (for its era) movie which is similar to 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris, and Sunshine. Colonel Glenn Ross (Roy Thinnes) and British astrophysicist Dr John Kane (Ian Hendry) are on a mission on the Phoenix spacecraft to check on the existing planet that is situated on the same orbit of Earth. EUROSEC director Jason Webb (Patrick Wymark) heads the Sun Probe project to investigate the planet. What set's this apart from other films of its genre are the various subjects touched symbolized by the characters such as loss of love (Glenn's wife Sharon - Lynn Loring), attraction (EUROSEC official Lise Hartman (Loni von Friedl), lack of trust/exploration (Jason Webb) and truth/compassion/fate (Glenn Ross). Cinematography was exemplary such as the rays of sun towards the other planet/ship and before the crash landing. Screenplay and visual effects were realistic matched with the eerie score. One of the best lines: Webb - "I know more about human nature than anyone else here at EuroSEC. That's why I am in this office." and Ross - "Gotta have the right partner." Details from the futuristic clothing/settings, cars and extraordinary ship. Only minor detail that is not spectacular were the acting, nevertheless the cast was effective in portraying their roles. Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (Doppelgänger) is an underrated science fiction gem that never seems dated with a catchy story.
