Viewing this film makes appreciate the brilliance of its director, cast and crew. Thelma Dickinson (Geena Davis) is a responsible submissive housewife who has a dominant husband named Darryl (Christopher McDonald). She goes on a trip with her friend an organized waitress, Louise Sawyer (Susan Sarandon). Things start to go wrong when Thelma was manipulated by Harlan. After a crime was committed, the pair encounters J.D. (Brad Pitt). Louise asks assistance from her boyfriend Jimmy Lennox (Michael Madsen) while Detective Hal Slocumb (Harvey Keitel) tries to see the good in the two girls.

Though the movie show it’s being dated such as the walkman from the biker, a few songs and style, the screenplay and wonderful characters radiates. Davis and Sarandon were spectacular and sincere with their performances while Keitel had his moments in brief scenes. Locations and cinematography was gorgeous. Themes of rape, feminism, transformation, respect for women, criminal acts and society’s flaws were well presented. Humor was spot on especially when the cop was being held up by the two and Darryl’s answering the phone. Its feel was like No Country for Old Men and tempers/acts due to society were similar to Falling Down. Thelma & Louis is a rare flick much like Bonnie & Clyde where you really empathize with the characters and sometimes blame justice for not taking its course, but instead through other illegal means to justify the wrongdoings.
