Wedding Banquet, The ( Xi yan )

The WeddingBanquet review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 03/28/12

Wai Tung Gao and Simon are gay lovers. Tung’s parents have no idea of his preference in terms of a partner. His parents arranged a meeting with a girl. Things go wrong when an arranged wedding occurs with Gao’s tenant Wei-Wei. The humor was clever in terms of its writing. It kind of dulls during the actual wedding celebration. Subjects of peer pressure, relationships, lies, family and responsibility. A few nice lines: Mrs. Gao - “When a man grows up. A mother is forgotten.” Wu Ren Ren – “we are so selfish.” Acting was good from everyone but the soundtrack was somewhat uninteresting. Camera direction was good and character development superb. The Wedding Banquet is a descent family drama comedy about not hiding ones real identity to family and about parents pressuring children with their ideals.
