Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) was assigned to to write for The San Juan Star. He becomes involved with Chenault (Amber Heard). The plot and characters were dull and confusing. It showed the beauty of the location if only the structure of the story were better. Rum Diary had a good script with unfortunately bad direction.
