Rashomon review

A heavilly influential movie about a murder talked about by a commoner, priest and woodcutter. They discuss a crime committed with different interpretations beneath the Rashōmon gate. The story of bandit Tajōmaru is exhibited. Next would be the wife’s story where her dagger was on the chest of her husband. The dead samurai speaks thru a medium with regards to another version of the story. Lastly, the wood cutter tells his version of the story. Screenplay was exceptional with the following quotes: Masako – “Just remember: A woman loves a man who loves passionately.” Commoner – “We all want to forget something, so we tell stories. It's easier that way.” “That's the way we are, the way we live. You just can't live unless you're what you call selfish.” Priest – “If men don't trust each other, this earth might as well be hell.” The only questionable factors were the film’s conclusion, a few unrealistic funny scenes and lack of a better score. Nevertheless, the drama, humor and aspects of silent artistic filming with radiant performances were exhibited. Various matters of humanity, lies, hope and egotism were presented. Rashomon’s parts were stronger than the overall picture.
