The Lady Vanishes review

A group of strangers bond in a hotel and train. Iris Henderson (Margaret Lockwood) meets an old lady named Froy (May Whitty). It is evident even in the early works of Hitchcock that he really chooses gorgeous actresses. One of the best quotes from the picture: Iris – “I have no regrets. I’ve done everything.” Froy - “Some people have so little consideration of others.” “I don’t think you can judge any country based on its politics.” One of the characters speaks so fast which is difficult to understand the film at times. It had few unbelievable scenes such as a stranger coming inside another girl’s room who she doesn’t know, which is not even locked. Pace of the film is slow even the first 30min. was not that interesting. However, the pace improves and its themes of regrets, appreciation and politics were well presented. The Lady Vanishes shows promise, nothing groundbreaking compared to the director’s other works.
