The Beaver

The Beaver review

Meredith (Foster) let’s his husband, Walter Black (Gibson) is a miserable CEO of a toy company, out of their home. Walter gets a beaver puppet from a trash bin and suddenly his life is transformed. The Beaver takes over the company and introduces himself to everyone as “The Beaver.” Porter is not happy when his father goes back because of their strenuous relationship. Porter and Henry get close, he gets caught for vandalism. Jerry Co. becomes on top. Two things standout, a sensational performance from Mel Gibson and delightful direction from Jodie Foster. Its plot maybe unbelievable but the screenplay was effective. Had a few good lines from the picture: The Beaver/Walter – “Everybody needs a friend Walter.” “I’m not a puppet. I’m real.” “You just keep moving.” A picture about depression, loneliness, family, and finding your identity, The Beaver was an effective comedy drama which not all people would get or even like.
