Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma and sees a deserted London due to a virus which emanated from chimpanzees. He is saved by Selena (Naomie Harris) and another survivor. Both Jim and Selena discover more survivors named Frank (Brendan Gleeson) and daughter, Hannah (Megan Burns). The remaining survivors encounter Major Henry West (Christopher Eccleston) with a mansion filled with soldiers. Some lines: Selena – “The infection was everywhere. The army blockades were overrun, and that's when the exodus started.” Maj. West – “Since it began, who have you killed? You wouldn't be alive right now if you hadn't killed somebody.” “Which is much what I saw in the four weeks before infection, and the four weeks before that, and before that, as far back as I care to remember.”

The cinematography, pace, score of the story and acting were spectacular. Murphy shows his talent in this film while Harris and Burns decent. Not your ordinary horror flick, it has fantastic elements of sensational characterization, artistic direction and various themes of humanity, rage, survival, love and with political undertones. Only minor reservations I had was the lack of character background of Selena, how she liked Jim immediately and a drop to the blood can make you infected was not discussed during the history of the virus. Nevertheless, engaging from beginning to end, 28 Days Later is an creative horror with a good story, with a rare glimmer of hope unusual in the genre.
