Saving Private Ryan review

On June 6, 1944 the Normandy invasion commences. Capt. John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) has been ordered by General George Marshall to save one of the Ryan brother’s killed during in dutye. He is accompanied by Horvath (Technical Sgt.), Mellish (Rifleman), Reiben (Automatic rifleman), Jackson (Sniper), Wade (Medic), Upham (speaks fluent French and German) and Caparzo (Rifleman). The company was able to locate Private First Class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) and should be sent home because of the Sole Survivor Policy. One of many memorable quotes: Capt. Miller – “Just know, every man I kill, the farther I feel from home I feel.” “James... earn this. Earn it.” Corporal Upham – “"If God is for us, who could be against us?"” Private James F. Ryan - “And I've tried to live my life the best I could. I hope that was enough. I hope that at least in your eyes, I've earned what all of you have done for me.”

The picture had various subjects such as brotherhood, violence, war, loyalty and valuing life. Evidently the technical brilliance of the movie was recognized because of its 11 nominations in the Academy Awards that include cinematography, sound and direction. Vivid visual effects used on the film to make it realistic were tremendously fascinating. The Bonus disc for special features was engaging as well since it probed the “boot camp” and creation, some of my favorites that made it more interesting. Tom Hanks was remarkable, so did the troops prolific performances from Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns and Barry Pepper. This flick can be watched repeatedly because of its quality screenplay, believable acting and its purpose. Saving Private Ryan is one of the greatest war movies produced that depicted genuinely the obstacles and hardships of war while making you reflect if you have lived a good life.
