The Sting (1973)

The Sting review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 08/24/11

The film involves a small time grifter John Hooker (Robert Redford), an experienced con artist Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) and a shrewd mob boss Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). Excellent scrip-writing and pacing of the story telling. Character development was well executed and has wonderful performances from the supporting cast. The 2 leads provided solid acting as well. Countless twists and action with drama was evident. Memorable lines: FBI Agent Polk - "Try not to live up to all my expectations." Hooker - "You were right, Henry. It's not enough... But it's close." Its aura doesn't seem dated and the humor coupled with the delightful score, art direction, costumes and camera direction brought life to this caper flick. The Sting truly deserves its place as one of the best pictures created.
