Forrest Gump is an entertaining novel based picture from start to finish. You have Tom Hanks portraying the mentally challenged yet guileless Forrest Gump. He stumbles into various historical events and was part of the US Army ping pong team. After being discharged he buys a shrimping boat with Benjamin Buford Blue, nicknamed Bubba and Lt. Dan as first mate. After being successful, he gives a portion of the profits to Bubba’s family. Jenny proposes to Forrest after meeting up since she was infected by an unknown virus. He discovers the reality that they both have a son. Some valuable quote: Forrest Gump - "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."' Mrs. Gump – “Death is just a part of life. It's something we're all destined to do. I didn't know it, but I was destined to be your momma. I did the best I could.”

The reliable ensemble include the Robin Wright (the troubled Jenny), Gary Sinise (the tough Lt. Dan Taylor), Sally Field (the judicious Mrs. Gump) and the youthful Haley Joel Osment (Forrest Gump Jr.). Tom Hanks brings out a character that has experienced life’s achievements and tribulations, an innocent childlike figure slowly turning into a responsible man. The cinematography and film’s score are so matched “like peas and carrots.” It has one of the best musical soundtracks since the film travels from different era in Gump’s wonderful journey. Some of the effects utilized were innovative, making the film more lifelike. It’s an emotional roller coaster of life which we can relate to: being part of the University of Alabama football team for his ability (luck), death of Mrs. Gump and Bubba (sadness), the pleasant scenes with Jenny (joy), Lt. Dan challenging God and then being at peace with him (religion), hitting it big with Apple and shrimping business (triumph), his conversations with Bubba and Lt. Dan (friendship), people jogging/running with him (influence), the feather (destiny) and taking care of Jenny/Forrest Gump Jr. (maturity). This movie is enjoyed even after repeat viewings so there could be more. Aside from the countless awards and recognition in different lists, its interminable values that include humanity, unconditional love and heart make this an obvious classic.
