Under the Skin (2014)

A hard film to review/rate. Anyone looking for a straight forward narrative be damned, Under The Skin is an experience in total cinematic immersion. With very little dialogue, director Johnathan Glazer uses everything one can utilize in a film, from unforgettable and mesmerizing imagery, creepy sound design, rich atmospherics, and a brave central performance from Scarlett Johansson, to put the viewer into a trance like state (or complete frustration.) It's a film that somehow packs a very strange emotional punch, though not in any categorical sense, think more in the way one feels while gazing at the moon. It may not always be successful, but it's definitely always fascinating. (Rated R for disturbing images, sexual content, graphic nudity, and some violence.)
