Blue is the Warmest Color ( vie d'Adèle, La )

Blue indeed.

Despite the admittedly gratuitously extended sex scenes which certainly earned the NC17 rating, BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is raw, honest, unflinching, and delicious. The two leads, Lea Seydoux and especially Adele Exarchopoulos give such realistic, powerful, and unforgettable performances that it's impossible to take ones eyes off of them. Ultimately this is a lengthy, indulgent, but brave and heartbreaking work of art that really leaves an indelible impression. One of the very best films of the year. Fascinating, and uncommonly engrossing. Now if only there could be a film like this involving to male lovers and their relationship. I guess I'll have to write that one. (Rated NC17- contains explicit sex and graphic nudity, and some language.)
