KABOOM!

Greg Araki's (Mysterious Skin) Kaboom has quite a load of flaws. But it's so beautifully filmed and totally trip. It's a head on collision of various genre's and bizarre story lines. It's also refreshingly unafraid in it's lurid depiction of homosexuality, that's actually quite easy to relate to in some respects. And while the script may be filled with dozens of non-sequiturs (think Wes Anderson on acid) and all too overly hip dialogue. it's all done with a candy colored, kaleidoscopic, phantasmagorical visual style that will totally give your eyes multiple orgasms, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh out loud. Kaboom may be a mess, but its one that you can never take you're eyes off. It's deliciously entertaining, fast, and wholly original. Some may find it to be a pretentious, awful, train wreck. And while I could understand why, I just love this whole movie. One of Araki's best, if not most fun, even if it never even comes close to the masterful brilliance of Mysterious Skin or the hilarious heights of Smiley Face.
