For once the 'Based on Actual Events' card is true, which makes Compliance all the more unsettling. A hard film to endure, but an important one that everyone should see at least once. It's thought provoking for sure, how far would you go if a supposed 'authority of the law' told you to do things that are vile, violating, and crosses inappropriate boundaries. If this had been a fictional tale, it would be easy to write off due to it's credibility. But since what happens in the film has happened 70 or more times in 30 states, makes it absolutely sickening and ridiculous. I was infuriated and squirming in my seat the entire time. Kudos to director Craig Zobel for causing some unbearable tension in such a restricted setting (most of the film takes place in the back of a fast food restaurant.) While I could never watch the film again (and coming from me that's rare,) the performances are tops all around, especially from Ann Dowd and Dreama Walker. Plus the filming is stark and sharp with a foreboding but oddly beautiful musical score. This film will push your limits, but it's almost essential viewing. Plus it may make you think twice at ever working fast food again. The most controversial film of the year.

Compliance Review comment

This is one of those films that has been on my radar. I like films that push the envelope, and this seems to fit the bill.
