A familiar theme: young girl falls for much older married man. But the married man is neither handsome nor rich, and she is certainly not the delicate French beauty who usually decorates such dramas. They are, in fact, trailer trash replete with redneck relatives.
“We are not made for this world” she tells her new lover and indeed they are not. Unfortunately this statement doesn’t justify the denouement which undoes much of the good work that preceded it. It’s worth seeing, though, just for the presence of Denis Lavant, whose face has not so much weathered as looking like it spent the last twenty years staring down a hurricane.
