Page Turner, The ( tourneuse de pages, La )

A Tense Character-Study
SIngli6 - wrote on 03/04/12

A 10-year old who fancies herself a precocious pianist has her big league aspirations crushed because of the obnoxiousness of a judge. The girl then decides that revenge is the only logical step forward. There is an artful grace and beauty about the way that this tale of bitterness and spite is portrayed onscreen, with Denis Dercourt always keeping suspense as his key directive whilst never failing to offer us opportunities to look into the eyes of this young woman scorned and ask the question; 'Why would anyone hold a grudge that big over something so small?'. Whether you think that question is answered or not by the end really depends on how you interpret the mannerisms of the lead actress. The director does not guide you to any conclusion, so you have to come to your own.
