Omen, The (2006)
The Omen: Now with 50% more Spoops
2.5/4 stars

A scene-for-scene remake that exaggerates virtually every aspect of the original. A priest with facial scaring becomes Nosferatu with less pronounced ears, an overcast day leading to a sudden, inexplicable thunderstorm becomes a thunderstorm leading into an even bigger thunderstorm, a crazy room encased in crosses and torn out Bible pages is moved from an apartment building to a basement beneath a train line, and a seemingly innocent toddler becomes a dead-eyed Goth pre-schooler. And that's not even getting into the dream sequences. About the only aspect that isn't exaggerated is the 1976 film's iconic Jerry Goldsmith score (Marco Beltrami's muted replacement track is as forgettable as it is even there at all), which is utterly inexplicable as that is the one thing that is universally beloved about the otherwise divisive original.

Otherwise it is the same film, though at least not shot-for-shot like Gus Van Sant's Psycho remake. It's easy enough to watch, and John Moore's proto-Zack Snyder visuals make for moments of Giallo eye-candy, but don't really bother seeing it if you've already seen the original.
