Although I was drawn by the trailers like I am sure many of you. So right up front I will have to give the green Hornet marketing department 5 stars! I still had no idea what to expect with “The Green Hornet” movie. As for me, my minor knowledge of the GH character was limited to the childhood reruns of the Adam West batman series when that Green Hornet and Bruce Lee would make cameos in the series. Back then I thought that Bruce Lee’s attempting to act like Robin could last 2 minutes in a fight with him was really stretching my belief system. I mean Santa Clause, the tooth fairy no problem, but Robin being able to hold his own with Brue lee? Come on now!
Anyway I thought the trailers were cool so I donated my $9.50 per person to check it out. I personally thought that - even though I went into it with an opened mind – I just could not buy into Seth Rogen as a crime fighter. Much like the series from way back his side kick Kato aka actor Jay Chou carried the film.
Speaking of Kato. Am I the only one who thought that the actor playing Kato was John Cho from the Harold & Kumar films? Well I might have been the only one but for those who where on my same line of incorrect thinking, it’s not him! Lol
I am thinking that the movie was shooting for action comedy with a heavier lean on the comedy. I personally loved the action scenes with Kato but thought that Seth Rogen (even a slimmer one) fell short on the comedy side.
On a scale from 1 to 10 I will give it a 6.5. By divine intervention, I was too early for the 3D showing so that may have taken it up to a solid 7. But I am still thinking that even the Kato’s fist flying off the 3D screen may not have been worth the extra $5 for 3D.
