A fine film about navy training. It gives a fairly interesting portrait of the time in the man's life, and all the people around him. Somethings in it were rather predictable in my book such as what happens to the man character's friend. This is not a type of movie that I am overly interested in but it was fine. The biggest problem with it would be that Richard Gere plays his character sometimes very strangely. He is good some of the time but acts very oddly other times. The romance is fine if you like ti but the best parts of the film are good thanks to the drill sergeant.

Oscar Win Lou Gossett Jr. Best Supporting actor 4/5- Gossett is very good and very interesting in this role and makes the best parts of the film. He plays the standard drill sergeant character perfectly, but he adds a very key amount of subtlety to the performance. The sergeant clearly also cares about the recruits despite his outward appearance. Gossett handles these slight indications of this quite well that it is just perfectly done. Entertaining with depth.
