Sergeant York

A true story.

A good film about an American war hero who performed one amazing feat in battle. The film follows Alvin York from a young ruffian, to a religious pacifist to a religious soldier. I thought the film was effective in all its sections, and I really enjoyed its themes. It is pro war which does not work that well for world war one, but it explains it self much better I feel than some anti war films, since it actually examines each side. Some good performances here, and a story worth following. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it so amazing.

Oscar Win Best Actor Gary Cooper 1/5- Gary Cooper is once again here not great. There are many scenes where he acts with false emotions or strange acting. He stills is entertaining in ways and still holds the film, it is just not a great piece of acting. I found it better than his High Noon performance because he does more than looks tired.

Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor Walter Brennan 4/5- Brennan is as great as he always seems to be again. He adds a strength to every scene he is in. He is great as the mentor character and adds a lot to the overall movie.
