The King's Speech

Period piece elevated by Firth

Standard historical movie fare for the most part, but Firth, HBC, and the ALWAYS fantastic Rush really make the movie something to get invested in. The direction is also really interesting (I noticed that the characters are almost never in the center of the frame). The movie goes by quickly because it's well-paced and quite funny, but it's not unforgettably good. Still, Firth is a shoe-in for best actor just because everyone loves Firth. Eisenberg (arguably the more memorable performance) winning would be a genuine upset.
