Vantage Point

Pretty Fun!

Coming into this film, I knew that the first forty-five minutes or so were a series of scenes that go back in time so I was not completely annoyed by it. Don't get me wrong--it did get tiring and the last two rewind in time felt pointless--but as a whole, this picture is not bad at all. The action scenes were exciting and there are more than a handful of scenes that are like puzzle pieces that need to be put together in order to see the bigger picture. Sure, some of the "twists" were predictable but they made sense. It was nice to see Dennis Quaid as one of the president's protectors who has had experience with a prior assassination attempt. He was convincing because he was shaking, paranoid, and sweating the whole time. Although the gravity of the situation is quite dire, there were some unintentional laughs, which I always appreciate. Other honorable mentions include Sigourney Weaver and Forest Whitaker. They made the scenes they were in that much more interesting due to their subtle acting. The movie could have been more focused without the cringe-worthy (and worn-out) last two scenes that go back in time. Otherwise, this provides a good time in the cinema.
