What a strange film! I like dry humour a lot but this was very, very dry--maybe too dry. I can understand why a lot of people hated this film. Even I scratched my head a couple of times because I didn't know if some scenes were supposed to be funny. I do admit, though, that I thought some scenes were clever and amusing. I especially liked the Filipino pirates and how one of the Caucasian men tried to speak in Tagalog. Half of the things he said, I couldn't make out but I laughed anyway because bad representation is better than no of representation. I thought the potential father-son relationship that Luke Wilson and Bill Murray had was kind of touching in a really awkward way. Cate Blanchett did a really good job, too. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this film nor will I plan on seeing it again any time soon. I have yet to recover from walking in its Sahara of humour.
