This movie is definitely not for everyone because not only is it a dark comedy, the style of storytelling is very offbeat and there are scenes that crossed the fantasy genre. Even though the laughs are pretty much head-to-head hit-and-miss, I am recommending it because it’s not a typical movie that follows the same sex comedy formula. I also liked Simon Baker as a guy who gets a list of women that he has to sleep with before he dies. Even though he’s flawed and gets somewhat annoying, curiosity gets the best of him most of the time, like most of us do. But the real star of the film for me was Winona Ryder. Every time she was on screen, the film crackled because of the way she looked, acted and spoke. There were three scenes that stood out for me: the invitation to the porn star’s bedroom, the morgue, and when Ryder’s character explains why she is the way she is. Those three scenes alone made up for the bulky, mostly unfunny, middle. When the script gets the right footing from time to time, the material is nothing short of hilarious. It is an uneven film but it’s worth renting and watching with an open mind.
