Barney's Version

A Triumph of Acting.

"Barney's Version" is the unusual deconstruction of one man's life, taking the viewer through the twists and turns of his many failed relationships, in search of true love. The film's heart is Paul Giamatti, who brings a weight and sadness to the tragic character of Barney Panofsky, but the film also features a brilliant cast of supporting characters. Minnie Driver and Rosamund Pike are strong as Barney's two most recent wives and Dustin Hoffman brings a likable crudeness to Barney's "rough around the edges" police officer father. The film walks the appropriate line between quiet realism and absurdity and succeeds in painting a unique portrait of its odd title character.
