Distant Voices, Still Lives

A Brilliant Underrated British Classic

This is a fascinating glimpse in time into a specific era of history. The way the popular song culture of the time is used in this film to underline emotion is creative and nostalgic at once. It is slow-moving at times and sometimes the disjointed method of storytelling can be confusing (there are a lot of quick montages and flashbacks,) but the story just sort of settles over you and, by the end, if you choose to stick with the film and give it your full attention, you are encaptured.
