Intense and Scary

Pure and unadulterated terror. This film takes a little while to get going, but, once it does, it's one of the best zombie flicks out there. The film builds its characters and then lets them loose in an apartment building that quickly becomes a nightmarish setting. The designers for the Left 4 Dead video game series could take notes because I was amazed at how quickly a simple apartment complex can become a maze of fear. The story itself is pretty straightforward and this is one of the few "found footage" films that I feel uses its chosen medium well and not in a gimmicky way. The bottom line is that, as any good horror film should be, [REC] is really, really scary.
