More a story about human companionship during the horrors of war than a straightforward horror or ghost story. Yes, there are ghosts, but they serve more as a backdrop for the human drama that director Del Toro explores than as the primary antagonists of the film. A haunting and beautiful film that is more touching than it is scary.
