10,000 B.C.

A letdown that could have been better

What a disappointment of a film. There are some awesome visuals and interesting setpieces (I know the whole pagan temple with sacrifices was done first and better in Apocalypto, but something about that sort of crowd mentality still scares me in any film), but they are squandered by inconsistent and horrible dialogue and a vague plot. All of the characters get lost behind bad wigs and facial hair and become indistinguishable in the epic action sequences. Emmerich has always been a director who focuses more on visual effects and eye candy and this is no exception. He really loses touch with the moments that are supposed to be more down-to-earth and touching, however, and, as a result, the film suffers.
