How they got away with this I'll never know... For any people out there who are anime fans this movie is basically 'Paprika' with a live action heart throb 10 years past his prime. For a movie commemorated for it's 'originality' it's clear the critics that proclaimed that have not seen enough genres of movies. Now obviously there are going to be similarities in almost any recently made movie to those in the past, Inception however takes it a step further but bringing the animation of paprika to live action, almost scene for scene. 'Stealing' some of the more pivotal and intriguing scenes and placing them directly into their movie. Examples: The glass shattering scene, one of the best scenes in Paprika is when she sees through what appears to be glass, places her hand on it and the glass, along with her reflection in it shatters into pieces onto the floor. I wont bother to describe the scene from Inception because it is identical, just done with live action and CGI almost frame for frame. Another of Paprikas more jaw dropping scenes involved a man running down a long corridor where the dimensions change and seems to fall beneath his feet. This scene wasnt a complete frame by frame copy in inception, but was there and obvious non the less. The story line, while not completely the same was almost a side track on the paprika premise of people seeking into the dreams of others, taking on new personas, gathering information. I really hope the director who worked for over 10 years, or the author of the original Paprika book in Japan look into legal action for such a blatant rip off that isn't even trying to hide itself, instead just assuming the American audience is too culturally isolated to see it. I'm all for remakes of classics and even bringing anime to new mediums such as live action for those who would never bother to sit and watch something most americans would consider a 'cartoon' but give credit where credit is due and it certainly isn't the 'original visionaries' of inception.
