Inkheart

Poor Adaptation, but Still Interesting

Right after reading the book, I plunged into the movie with moderate hopes. To be honest, I wasn't expecting the movie to be as good as it was.

Brendan Fraser playing Mo seemed like a mistake when I first saw it, but I think he portrayed the character nicely. I was a little concerned with the fact that everyone, including his daughter, had an accent except for him, but that was alright. And the woman that portrayed Meggie's great aunt was suppose to be fat and she wasn't.

As for the story, they tore it to pieces. No matter if they tried to, there's no way they could possibly make Inkspell into a movie, which is probably a good think. Although I do like the happier alternative for Dustfinger (he was always my favorite), with him back where he was born, there's no way to continue the book series as a movie.

For the most part, the movie was enjoyable. If it wasn't for how much they destroyed the original story, I probably would've liked the movie more than I had. If you haven't read the book and you like fantasy, the movie would be enjoyable.
