The Secret of My Success (1987)

Small-town boy invades New York, gets girl, conque

It's not original and the characters are a bit too cute for our own good, but the structure is solid and the characters are likable.

Brantley Foster (Michael J Fox) is talented, but loses his job the day he moves to the big apple from, gulp, Kansas. Instead of tucking his tail between his legs (and then where would we be), he declares war on NYC.

Using a nepotistic connection, he lands a job in the mail room at a large firm where he promptly falls in love with a woman above his pay grade. Our hero comes complete with a sidekick and a dangerous liaison but his cool head and boyish charm win everyone over in the end. Well, almost everyone, he does stick it to the man.

A movie for those days when you call in sick.
