Rambo III

Review - Rambo III (1988)

After three years, John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) returns, but this time he doesn't want to fight. However, when one of his dearest friends, Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna), is captured during an ambush, Rambo decides it's time to get back in the game in “Rambo III.”

Take the final scene in “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and stretch that message out for an hour and a half. That's “Rambo III.” The first hour or so is nothing but exposition and blatant propaganda. Then the action starts, which is really the reason you're watching anyway, and it doesn't disappoint.

In the end, there's really not much to complain about, other than the writing. The action is a vast improvement from “II,” albeit there are the same amount if not more explosions. Rambo definitely has become the hero he is meant to be though. You can't help but root for the guy.

While “Rambo III” is a political statement, it's also a pretty fun action movie. I'm not surprised, however, that it was twenty years before they made another one.

Acting: 6/10

Audio/Music: 7/10

Final Score: 6.6/10
