Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Review - Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

Maggie Burroughs (Lisa Zane) didn't believe it when she heard the stories of children being murdered in their dreams, but when she learned the truth about Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), she knew she had to finish him off once and for all in “Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.”

What ever happened to the original? They even referenced it a few times in every movie, but not one of them had the same feel to it. Personally, I would have loved to see all of them stay in that horror feel, rather than going to comedy/fantasy. This one goes beyond that and tries something really new. Unfortunately for them, this idea made the “final” story in the series and utter waste of time.

The quality really suffered this time around. The movie had a low-budget feel to it (it actually was made with only $5 million), which further cheapens the experience. They did have some nice fun with sound, but in the only scene that this was apparent, they slacked off with writing. Seriously, what were they thinking when they wrote this garbage?

I do find it funny that some of the film was made for 3D, but the home releases don't contain this feature, so the movie has things popping out at you for no reason. I sort of wish the DVD would have at least had 3D glasses in the package, it wouldn't have been very hard. Maybe if they do a collector's edition they'll keep it intact, but I won't be watching it anyway.

“Freddy's Dead” brings about a well needed conclusion to a lost cause. Of course, it wasn't the last in the series with a seventh movie, “Freddy vs. Jason,” and a remake on the way. Money can really ruin the worst things.
