Disturbia

Review - Disturbia (2007)

When Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf) was put under house arrest, he knew his life was going downhill. But now, when he sees the opportunity to take down a possible killer, he decides to take the risk in “Disturbia.”

LaBeouf has a knack for choosing the worst movies to be in. I believe he’s a fair actor, but he doesn’t show off his skill enough to prove it to anybody. Then again, he’s a young star, so I don’t expect him to only take the good roles, especially when money’s involved.

I was amazed by the crew’s ability to stick some sort of product placement into every single scene in this film. I didn’t even think it was possible to sell so many things in one movie. They even through in a mention of YouTube, which will be confusing a couple generations down the road, I’m sure.

The story for “Disturbia” was obviously either based on or ripped off of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window,” which is a far superior film to say the least. They took a clever premise and made into something almost disrespectful to the original film. I guess that’s what money does to you.

If you couldn’t tell, the one word that comes to my mind with this movie is “money,” which it did make plenty of. “Disturbia” isn’t a horrible film if you just let it be what it is, but I don’t really have much respect for this sort of half-hearted film.
