When Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford) found his partner Luther Coleman (Robert Earl Jones) murdered by Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw), he decided to get revenge with the help of Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman). They plan to take Lonnegan for all he’s worth in the Best Picture winning film, “The Sting.”

This is another Best Picture winner that didn’t win for being the best dramatic piece of the year or the most thought provoking. It’s just a fun movie that you don’t need to think too much about to find entertaining.

The most comment-worthy aspect of this film would be the writing, as it is a very elaborate plot that works easily. Their scam is played out slowly, making sure every necessary precaution is taken to succeed. It’s a really intriguing look at what lengths people will go through to get what they want. But like I said, you don’t need to look too much into it to enjoy the ride.

The style of the film reminds me of crime comedies from the black-and-white era of Hollywood. The scenes are done in a nostalgic way, but luckily the acting is not. There’s not much else to say on it, but I thought it was a nice touch.

“The Sting,” as I’ve said, is a fun movie that doesn’t take much to like. It’s one of those comedies that just works no matter how you look at it.

Acting: 8/10
Writing: 9/10
Video/Editing: 9/10
Audio/Music: 10/10
Entertainment: 9/10

Final Score: 9/10
